Apparatus and method for perforating wellbores

An apparatus for use in perforating wellbores comprises a propellant 208 having a plurality of cavities 212, and explosive devices 214 mounted in the cavities 212. The explosive devices 214 may comprise shaped charges. The apparatus may further comprise a detonating cord connected to the explosive devices 214. The apparatus may further comprise a loading tube formed of the propellant. Detonation of the explosive devices 214 causes activation of the propellant to cause high pressure buildup. Also disclosed is a method comprising lowering a tool into a well, wherein the tool has a propellant having a plurality of cavities, the tool further comprises explosive devices mounted in the cavities and activating the tool to detonate the explosive devices in the cavities of the propellant. The detonation of the explosive devices may perforate the surrounding casing and extend perforations into surrounding formation.
