The present invention relates to a diagnostic device for analysing one or more test substances, the device comprising: (a) a silicon sample interaction means for, when in use, interacting with the or at least one of the test substances; (b) a signal generation means for generating a test signal by interrogating the silicon sample interaction means; and (c) a signal processing means for processing the test signal.
