Frosting and fouling are two of the most prominent concerns regarding heat exchangers, in particular, regarding heat exchange between hot and cold air flows for building ventilation. Frosting and fouling both cause a build up of material on heat exchange surfaces thereby increasing the thermal exchange resistance between the hot and cold air flow s. This document defines a heat exchanger that is based on the heat sink principle, like the heat wheel and reverse flow exchangers. However it differs from these in that the thermal mass or heat sink is a continuous body that passes through each fluid successively, perpendicular to each fluids direction of flow. In addition, because of its continuous nature and movemen t, the heat sink surfaces may be continually scraped clean by strategically placed scrapers</ SDOAB> |
