In the production of metal valve powders, especially niobium and tantalum, the metal oxide powders are reduced by reduction metal vapors and/or their hydrides in an inert carrier gas. The reduction is at a partial vapor pressure of the reduction metal/hydride of 5-110 hPa and at a total pressure of = 1000 hPa. The preferred metal oxides are of titanium, zirconium, hafnium, vanadium, niobium, tantalum, molybdenum and/or tungsten, and especially tantalum pentoxide. The reduction metal is a magnesium vapor. |
