970,821. Utilizing inertia to obtain movements. N. L. DEAN. May 7, 1962 [March 13, 1962], No. 17539/62. Heading F2X. A slide 22 is reciprocated with harmonic motion by the rotation of an arm 28 carrying a weight 34 mounted on the slide 22, and a cam 40 is adapted to engage an equilibrium point 38 on the arm 28 to restore the centre of the harmonic motion to its former position if the centre becomes displaced. A segmental cam element 56 constitutes an amplitude control device. A shaft 64, driven by a motor 62, carries bevel gears 70, 92, 72 which transmit drives to cam 40, arm 28 and cam element 56, respectively, the bevel gear 92 being slidably mounted by means of splines 90 on the shaft 64. In a modification, the arm 28 and weight 34 are replaced by eccentric mass elements 110 mounted on shafts 108 carried by a transverse member 104 and driven in opposite directions. |
