A toilet basin has an air inlet under the seat, and a water inlet down-pipe (2) fed from a cistern by a second lever-operated lift/lower water release pipe (4) located within a first chamber. The cistern has a second chamber with an inlet and an outlet. The inlet is linked via a flexible duct to the upper end of the lift/lower pipe. The second chamber outlet surrenders air to a filter.
