A main insert(2) inside a punch body(1) has an inner insert(3) of a size corresponding to the intended marking. A compression spring(4) below the inner insert surrounds the main insert and is compressed between a supporting face(6) of a collar(5) and the rear, non-marking face(7) of the inner insert. Release of a securing screw(8) below the insert causes the spring to lift the inner insert to a desired position where it can be held while the screw is retightened to hold the inner insert position. The securing screw(8) is at a right angle to the insert(2). The collar(5) surrounds the upper part of the main insert(2) and the whole of the inner insert(3). Marking features are incorporated on the outward facing surface(9) of the inner insert.
