The front area (11) of the side member (1) is accommodated in the space formed by a U-shaped cross member (2) provided with two short extensions (24,25) protruding from its upper (22) and its lower surface (23). A block of shock-absorbing material (31,32) is positioned behind each of the extensions (24,25). In case of a crash a protection barrier (T) is pushed against the outer surface (21) of the cross member (2) which is then moved against the shock absorbing material (31,32). The material is compressed between the extensions (24,25) and two stop elements (41,42). |
