Method of determining the structure activity relationship or mode of action of a first and second compound comprising providing each of the compounds to a microorganism sample and detecting activity of each compound on the sample by detection of the heat generated in the sample using a calorimeter, thereby allowing any difference in activity to be correlated to difference in structure or mode of action between the two compounds.
