Method involves determination of neutral condition of steering column while driving vehicle at a speed above a threshold value when the measured manual torque applied by the driver on the steering column and the rate of change of steering angle are small or minimal or when the speed difference between the non-driven wheels of the motor vehicle is small or minimal. The method involves determination of neutral condition of steering column when ascertained yaw rate and ascertained transverse acceleration are small or minimum at higher driving speed of the vehicle. The method also involves determination of neutral condition of steering column i.e. the neutral condition is at the middle of the end-stops, when the steering column is twisted from one mechanical end-stop to the other end-stop.
