PURPOSE: A device for reducing the vibration is provided to improve the riding comfort by minimizing the crosswise vibration transferred toward an elevating car with the winding of a guide rail. CONSTITUTION: A vibration damping for an elevator is installed with a cross head(2a) and a base beam(2b) combined in the upside and the lower side of an elevator cage(2). The damping device(10) comprises of: plural sliding rods; weight car as a weight member to slide crosswise with the elevator cage(2) when the crosswise vibration is generated; and a coil spring as an elastic member having a certain spring fixed number so the weight car as to have the regular rotational frequency for the crosswise vibration of the elevator cage. The elevator cage is safely traveled by reducing the vibration transferred to the elevator cage(2) by the damping device of a moving weight(10) installed in the cross head(2a) and the base beam(2b) of the elevator cage(2).
