METHOD FOR COMBINING OPTICAL FIBERS HAVING CORES OF DIFFERENT SIZES

PURPOSE: A method for combining optical fibers having cores of different sizes is provided to perform an optical combination without an additional optical combination member by polishing process. CONSTITUTION: A method for combining optical fibers having cores of different sizes comprises the steps of: forming a taper portion by polishing a side portion of a first optical fiber(10) having a core portion(11) of a predetermined diameter; combining an end portion of the taper portion of the first optical fiber to a second optical fiber(20) having a core portion(21) of a smaller diameter by using a splicer; and heating a connection portion between the first optical fiber and the second optical fiber to extending a length as much as a predetermined length.
