METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING CHROME CARBIDE-ALUMINA COMPOUND POWDER USING SELF-PROPAGATING HIGH-TEMPERATURE SYNTHESIS

PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing chrome carbide-aluminum compound powder is provided which produces high purity of chrome carbide-aluminum compound powder using self-propagating high-temperature synthesis. CONSTITUTION: A manufacturing method comprises the following steps of: 1) the mixing chrome oxide, aluminum, and carbon in a molar ratio of 3: 6: 4 by wet mix process with N-hexane for 24 hours; 2) dehydrating the mixture by vacuum dehydration; 3) the forming the dehydrated mixture into regular sized pellets; 4) the combustion of the pellets in the chemical furnace of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis; and 5) grinding the combustion products.
