The device has a retaining device (4) movable from a resting position into a locking position by a release mechanism (7) in dependence on occurrence of a mass flow. The release mechanism is controllable by a detection device (13) for the mass flow, where the detection device is arranged at a distance above the retaining device. The detection device comprises a collection device (14) for a partial mass of the mass flow. The collection device is movably supported in a flow direction of the mass flow, and is drivably connected with the release mechanism.
