The invention relates to a method for processing the surface of a support, for example a fibro-cement roof containing asbestos and used as a building element, more specifically to a surface processing for render harmless the asbestos-containing structural elements of ancient buildings by preventing an uncontrolled dispersion of asbestos powder into the atmosphere. The inventive simple and economical method substentially consists in applying at least one layer of a coatable and hardenable silicon composition containing at least one type of silicon oil aqueous dispersion, in hardening said layer or layers by drying and polymerisation/crosslinking in such a way that a waterproof elastomer silicon coating which is adhesive to the support and prevents the asbestos distribution therefrom is formed. The inventive silicon composition is applied by brushing or by spraying. The crosslinking of silicon oils applied to the support in situ is embodied in the form of a condensation crosslinking. The asbestos-containing support coated with the cross-linked silicon obtainable by the inventive method is also disclosed.
