<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device that enables a wide-view angle display, in both the transmission-type display and the reflection-type display. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a transmission-type display area T and a reflection-type display area R. The device includes a liquid crystal layer thickness-adjusting layer 26 for reducing the thickness of the liquid crystal layer in the reflection-type display area smaller than that of the transmission-type display area. The liquid crystal layer contains liquid crystal molecules of negative dielectric anisotropy. In an area where the transmission-type display area and the liquid crystal layer thickness adjusting layer are formed, a pixel electrode 31 and a protrusion 28 consisting of dielectric are formed, and the protrusion 28 is formed to substantially the same height. The protrusion 28, which is formed in the area where the liquid crystal layer thickness-adjusting layer is formed, is brought into contact with a substrate 10A, facing a substrate 25A where the protrusion is formed, and is arranged outside a dot area. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
