<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To resolve a possibility of wrong operation in correction with respect to a character string. <P>SOLUTION: When processing is started, and searching of an input character string is finished and there is no corresponding index word in step 1, in step 2, it is determined whether or not there is a sign representing a tone of "0"-"4" or "-" for example in the input character string. If there is a sign (YES) in step 2, the sign of "0"-"4" or "-" in the displayed character string is removed in step 3, and return correction is carried out in an input image plane in step 4.
