PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination device 12 capable of removing a speckle pattern without using a mechanical drive. SOLUTION: The illumination device is provided with: a laser beam source 15 which applies laser beams 90; a hologram structure body 21 which switches emission optical paths 91, 92 of the laser beams made incident; and a plurality of diffraction optical elements 41, 42 which diffuse and emit the laser beams made incident through the emission optical paths 91, 92, wherein the plurality of diffraction optical elements 41, 42 illuminate an optical modulation device 50 while superimposing at least one part of respective emission light beams 98, 99 on each other.
