<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently perform sulfur poisoning recovery operation of an NO<SB>X</SB>storage reduction catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The NO<SB>X</SB>storage reduction catalyst 7 is arranged in an exhaust passage 5 of an engine 1 including an automatic transmission 3 and purifies NO<SB>X</SB>in exhaust gas. An electronic control unit 30 of the engine performs sulfur poisoning recovery operation in which the engine is operated at rich air fuel ratio and under a condition where exhaust gas temperature rises for desorbing SO<SB>X</SB>component accumulated on the catalyst 7, and inhibits neutral control in which engagement pressure of a clutch of the automatic transmission is dropped at a time of vehicle stop during sulfur poisoning recovery operation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
