PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a small-sized array antenna, of which the scanning range of beam directivity is wide, which can be used even in a high frequency band of 1GHz or higher without changing a frequency. SOLUTION: When both switches SW1, SW2 are simultaneously turned to (b) side as illustrated, a conductor forming an odd-numbered unit pattern U from a power feeding point side is set to a low potential, and a conductor forming an even-numbered unit pattern U from the power feeding point side is set to a high potential. Therefore, potentials different from each other are given to conductors forming unit patterns U adjacent to each other in an x-axis direction. Accordingly, an electric field in the x-axis direction is formed in a gap G1 between the conductors of the unit patterns U adjacent to each other. Thus, when both the switches SW1, SW2 are simultaneously turned to the (b) side as illustrated, moment vectors of electric dipoles in liquid crystal molecules of liquid crystal 13 are oriented in the x-axis direction, respectively.
