PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid that rubbing of paper to be fed and its underlying paper is concentrated to the same position and to suppress damage of a surface of the paper. SOLUTION: The paper feeding device is constituted such that a relative position of a pickup roll 58 to the underlying paper P (second sheet of paper) is varied along a paper feeding direction accompanying with motion of the paper P (first sheet of paper) fed to the pickup roll 58. Thereby, it can be avoided that rubbing of the paper P (first sheet of paper) to be fed and its underlying paper P (second sheet of paper) is concentrated to the same position and damage of the surface of the paper can be suppressed.
