Channels, which include at least one channel on which unit communication charge is changed in accordance with the amount of transmitted/received data, are combined to construct a single virtual channel. In a communication system where data is transmitted/received between communication apparatuses via the virtual channel, the change of the unit communication charge for each of the channels constituting the virtual channel is detected. This change of unit communication charge for each channel is caused to influence the priority of using the channel. During data transmission, the channel selection is controlled such that data is transmitted via a channel having the lowest unit communication charge on the priority basis.
