A data line (125) is arranged in a vertical direction perpendicular to a gate line (113) over a substrate. A drain electrode (117) is formed on a semiconductor layer and over a gate electrode (115), so that it corresponds to an inverted T-shaped opening in the central portion of gate electrode. A source electrode (119) extending from the data line, surrounds the drain electrode and the opening. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) LCD device; (b) LCD device formation method.
