<p>A process for the production of high molecular weight cross-linked thermoplastic polyamides having a high melt viscosity comprises reacting a thermoplastic synthetic linear polyamide having a molecular weight of at least 40,000 with 0.1 to about 2% by weight of a cross-linking agent. Specified polyamides are those derived from d -valerolactam, e -caprolactam and o -oenantholactam and diamines, e.g. tetra-, penta- and hexamethylene diamine and dicarboxylic acids, e.g. succinic, glutaric, adipic, pimelic, azelaic and sebacic acid. Specified cross-linking agents are di- or polyepoxides of mono- or polybasic amines, hexamethylene diisocyanate, diepoxides of dicyclohexenyl alkanes and polycarbonates.</p> |
