PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine capable of automatically switching a sewing parameter corresponding to a change in thickness of sewen material. SOLUTION: A presser is driven through a movable link mechanism 2 to move between a rising position for releasing the sewn material and a pressing position for pressing the sewn material 16. By using a thickness sensor 34, the thickness of the sewn material outside an area 32 of the seam forming point is detected. The relative positions of the pressers 22, 28 in the presser positions to a bed 4 are detected by a position sensor 17. The adjusting value of the sewing machine 1 is set depending upon the output values of the position sensor and the thickness sensor by control devices 20, 43 connected 19, 35 to transmit a signal to the position sensor and the thickness sensor. As a result, when the sewn material changes in thickness, or when the kind of the sewn material changes, the sewing machine is automatically switched to be finely adapted for a sewing parameter.
