A modular construction aircraft has the main components on two main modules (10, 30) which are assembled with variable spacing to form different types of aircraft, e.g. to vary the load carrying capability. One module (10) has a basic hull unit assembled on a support structure and with the capability of fitting additional hull modules to selected overall length and size. The other main module comprises the main wings (22, 23), engine support frame (30) and front winglets (15). The engines are fitted on demountable supports and are directed rearwards. Any suitable type of engine can be fitted including jets, impellers or fan jets. The modular design is also suitable for surface skimmers.
