PURPOSE: A portable image pickup apparatus wearable on a wrist and an attachment for the apparatus are provided to easily produce additional special optical effects without impairing portability and operability of the apparatus for the user and without lowering the productivity and maintenance for the maker. CONSTITUTION: A portable image pickup apparatus(1) includes an image pickup lens(6) and an infrared communication unit(7) juxtaposed on the end face of a case member(2). Thus, the user is capable of picking up an image of an object by depressing the shutter button, and also perform infrared data communication, using the data display(22) as a monitor or finder in a state where the apparatus(1) is worn on the user's wrist. The apparatus(1) includes an attachment fittable over the case member(2) and having a part that aligns with at least an image pickup lens(6) of the camera unit. The part has a special image pickup function unit(telescopic lens) to give a special image pickup effect to an image picked up by the camera unit.
