PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller and a control method of a driving device for preventing deterioration in operability caused by an incorrect operation. SOLUTION: The controller of the driving device includes a detection means 54 for detecting whether an operation lever 12 and/or a steering wheel 60 are/is grasped; and a drive control means 52 for restricting travel control for a vehicle through the operation lever 12 on the basis of the detection result from the detection means when the operation lever 12 and/or the steering wheel 60 are/is not grasped in a controller to control the driving device having a lever to issue a travelling instruction to the vehicle.
