PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve mechanism of an internal combustion engine which can prevent wear of adjustment members caused by change in phase difference in the direction of relative rotation of an input arm and output arms and can restrain the variation in a lift quantity of an engine valve caused by the wear of the adjustment members. SOLUTION: The variable valve mechanism transmits rocking of the input arm 4 resulting from rotation of a cam (not shown) to the output arms 5, 6 so as to swing the output arms 5, 6, thereby reciprocating the engine valve (not shown). The variable valve mechanism also changes the phase difference in the direction of relative rotation of the input arm 4 and the output arms 5, 6 so as to alter the maximum lift quantity of the engine valve. In the variable valve mechanism, washer shims 8 for adjusting the phase difference in the direction of rotation of the input arm 4 and the output arms 5, 6 are interposed between the input arm 4 and the output arm 5 and between the input arm 4 and the output arm 6. Part of lubricating oil fed to spline-engagement portions of slider gears within the respective arms is supplied to sliding portions between the washer shims 8 and the arms 4, 5, 6.
