PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change an audio output mode in response to operations of various operation sections having no exclusive key for changing the audio output mode. SOLUTION: This receiver is provided with a receiving section for receiving a video audio signal; a video audio processor for generating a video signal based on the video audio signal to output the generated signal to a display device, and generating an audio signal based on the video audio signal to output the generated signal to an audio output device; and a control unit for causing a receiver to receive the video audio signal of a designated channel, causing the video audio processor to generate the video signal and the audio signal, and controlling the video audio processor to change the audio output mode of the audio signal to be generated based on the video audio signal. In a state where the video audio signal capable of selecting an arbitrary audio output mode from a plurality of kinds of audio output modes is being received, when the channel same as the above channel is designated by an operation of a channel designating key (step S31), the control unit changes the audio output mode (step S38).
