PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an observation apparatus capable of providing information on the illumination condition, in addition to an observation image. SOLUTION: The observation apparatus includes a vertical illumination optical system and a transmission illumination optical system that illuminate a sample S; an imaging unit 18, that captures the image of the sample S to generate the observation image; a storage unit 58, that stores the observation image, in association with the illumination condition of the vertical illumination optical system, or the transmission illumination optical system at the generation of the observation image by the imaging unit 18; an imaging controller 51 that controls the imaging unit 18 to capture the image of the sample S to generate the observation image and stores the observation image in the storage unit 58; and a microscope controller 52, that controls the vertical illumination optical system or the transmission illumination optical system to illuminate the sample S, and controls the storage unit 58 to store the illumination conditions each time the imaging unit captures the image of the sample S.
