PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device with which a display grade can be improved, irrespective of the angles of view and a color reproduction range can be expanded. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is equipped with a display element DP which enables color display in each pixel PX and a gradation controller GC which controls the gradation level in each pixel PX. The display element DP has a first white display constitutional object DP1, which is constituted to perform white display by combining the primary colors and a second white display constituting object DP2 which is constituted to perform the white display, including the color of the chromaticity different from that of the primary colors constituting the first white display constitutional object DP1. The gradation controller GC has a first control mode for controlling the gradation level of each pixel PX; by either the first white display constitutional object DP1 or the second white display constituting object DP2 and a second control mode for controlling the gradation level of each pixel PX, by the combination of the first white display constitutional object DP1 and the second white display constitutional object DP2.
