PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a universal head free from the deviation of an image plane associated with fixing operation and capable of smoothly and uniformly turning when releasing such fixing even if there are errors such as the dimensional error and the assembly error of a member. SOLUTION: The universal head 1 is equipped with: a base body; a pan turning body capable of turning in a right-and-left direction with a vertical axis A as center; and a tilt turning body capable of turning in an up-and-down direction with a horizontal axis B as center. The universal head 1 is equipped with: a pan turning body fixing means 106 for fixing the pan turning body to the base body and releasing such fixing; and a tilt turning body fixing means for fixing the tilt turning body to the pan turning body and releasing such fixing. The pan turning body fixing means 106 is equipped with: a ball pin 112 forming a ball-shaped part 111; and a braking body 114. The braking body 114 has: a nearly C-shaped main body part 122 press-fit and fixed on the tilt turning body by deformation by the contraction of a diameter; and a holding part 123 projecting from the non-deformed part of the main body part 122 and holding the ball-shaped part 111.
