The device (1) has a reservoir for a vapor corrosion inhibitor (VCI) arranged in a transport container (6) and a storage space. An opening mounts the container, and a closure device limits an inner volume of the container. The device has an emitter for the vapor corrosion inhibitor (VCI) in an area of the reservoir. The emitter is arranged in an area of free fluid flow within the transport container, is connected with a control unit (7), and is selectively controllable by using the control unit.
