<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress cross-writing and cross-talk even when a fine optical spot is used and to make it possible to use not only a ferrimagnetic body but also a ferromagnetic body and the like. <P>SOLUTION: A light shielding film 111 is formed on a near field light generating element 104 and a fine aperture part 112 which has at least one bent part and whose peripheral part is closed is formed at the light shielding film. Light made incident on the near field light generating element 104 is switched from left-handed circularly polarized light to right-handed circularly polarized light during recording information and during reproducing information by using an optical element 108. Thereby, a recording track is irradiated with a near field light spot when recording is performed and a track adjacent to a reproducing track is irradiated with the near field light spot when reproduction is performed.
