<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a caption processing apparatus of a transmission image display apparatus which dims a backlight in a maximum range without being influenced by the caption in an image to be displayed on a display portion and performs a power saving effect. <P>SOLUTION: A transmission liquid crystal display apparatus is provided with the caption processing apparatus. In the caption processing apparatus, when a pattern of the image is made on a screen of a liquid crystal panel 10 controlling a transmitted quantity of light of the backlight by a pixel value, a dimming portion 22 adjusts the quantity of light of the backlight according to the pixel value of the image based on an image signal, image adjusting portions 16R, 16G and 16B adjust the pixel value of the liquid crystal panel image according to the adjustment of the quantity of light of the backlight, a pixel value detecting portion 14 detects a maximum pixel value based on the image signal, a brightness of the caption generated by a caption generating portion 26 is controlled so as not to exceed the maximum pixel value of the image detected by a caption process controlling portion 28, and the caption is displayed on the screen of the liquid crystal panel 10 together with the image based on the image signal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
