PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating roll capable of applying a coating on a whole substrate in a uniform thickness without locally forming a thick film on both end sides of the substrate and having a groove which is scarcely clogged, easily cleaned and maintained. SOLUTION: The coating roll 1 comprises a roll 3 installed on the outer circumference of a rotation shaft 2. The outer circumference of the roll 3 is provided with a spiral guide groove 4 formed circumferentially to guide a coating 30. The depth D of the guide groove 4 at the two longitudinal end side sections 4a of the roll is smaller than that at the inner section 4b located inside of the two end side sections.
