PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a composite semipermeable membrane which has both a high salt rejection and a high permeation flux even when an amount of a polyfunctional amine to be used is reduced, and is useful for desalination of seawater or brackish water. SOLUTION: The method for producing a composite semipermeable membrane comprises bringing a polyfunctional amine aqueous solution into contact with a microporous supporting membrane, then bringing a water-nonmiscible organic solvent solution containing a polyfunctional acid halide into contact with the microporous supporting membrane, and forming a separation functional layer containing a crosslinked polyamide on the microporous supporting membrane by interfacial polycondensation, wherein 0.5% by weight or more of a neutral inorganic salt is added to the polyfunctional amine aqueous solution.
