PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a bit holder for not only inch bit and single-head bit but also a double ended bit. SOLUTION: This bit holder has: a shank part 2; a holder main body 3 connected and fixed to the distal end; an operating sleeve 4 externally fitted to be slidable around the holder main body 3; and a self recovery means 5 elastically energizing positioning of the operating sleeve 4 from a post-operation position toward an pre-operation position. A bit insertion port 7 is provided at a distal end part of the holder main body 3. A plurality of axial direction engagement means 6 are provided between a peripheral wall of the bit insertion port 7 in the holder main body 3 and an inner peripheral surface of the operating sleeve 4.
