摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide acetylene black having the specific surface area of &ge;500 m<SP>2</SP>/g and the crystal layer thickness (Lc) of &ge;25 &angst;, and to provide a catalyst for a fuel battery having high reaction efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: In the acetylene black, the specific surface area is 500 to 1,100 m<SP>2</SP>/g, and the crystal layer thickness (Lc) measured by X-ray diffraction is 25 to 40 &angst;. In the method for producing acetylene black, gaseous acetylene is brought into incomplete combustion reaction after its water content is reduced to &le;5 mg/L by absolute humidity, and the obtained acetylene black is subjected to oxidation treatment.
