<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-purity, monodisperse spherical silicon carbide particulate, and also to provide a method for production of an amorphous silicon carbide ceramic excellent in resistances to environment, heat and oxidation. <P>SOLUTION: The spherical silicon carbide particulate has the average particle size of 50-100,000 nm and the sphericity of 0.9-1.0. The production method therefor comprises the processes for: (a) providing an organic silicone precursor polymer comprising a (modified) polycarbosilane having a main chain skeleton represented by the formula (wherein R is H, lower alkyl or phenyl); (b) mixing the precursor polymer with a poor solvent to dissolve by heating, separating the precursor polymer by cooling the solution and filtering to obtain a spherical precursor polymer particulate; (c) infusibilizing the resultant particulate in an oxygen-containing atmosphere; and (d) burning the obtained particulate in vacuum and an inert gas atmosphere. The sintered compact of an amorphous silicon carbide ceramic is produced by heating and sintering the amorphous spherical silicon carbide particulate as a raw material. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
