A through-rod type damper simplified in structure and reduced in size by reducing the number of parts. The damper (1) comprises a cylinder tube (10) having one end part (16) connected to a part (3a) of a member (3) to be damped, a fixed rod guide (14) for closing the other end part (11) of the cylinder tube (10), a movable rod guide (18) fitted to one end part (16) of the cylinder tube (10), a main piston rod (21) extending from a piston (20) fitted into the cylinder tube (10) and passed through the fixed rod guide (14), an auxiliary piston rod (22) extending from the piston (20) and passed through the movable rod guide (18), and a spring (24) always energizing the movable rod guide (18) toward the piston (20). The damper further includes a damping force generating oil passage for allowing first and second oil chambers (42, 43) to communicate with each other in the cylinder tube (10) partitioned by the piston (20).
