The invention relates to a surface treating and/or modifying composition, for example a cosmetic or pharmaceutical or plant protective compositon or domestic care composition comprising a guar protein extract, possibly in the form of a derivative, wherein said protein extract comprises at least 65 % by weight proteins. The inventive guar protein extracts are particularly suitable in the form of a surface treating and/or modifying agent, wherein said surfaces are selected for example from the skin, hairs, domestic care and textile surfaces and plant leaf surfaces.
