<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily generate duplicates of a printed matter and perform back-up when out of paper while assuring security of image data, in an image forming apparatus which is called as a mail box, can be locked, and comprises an output shelf of which discharge destination of printed matters can be specified. <P>SOLUTION: Each output shelf 12 is provided with a memory card 22 that stores image data for the output shelf 12 as well. The memory card 22 allows only writing by a controller board 30 if it is loaded in a memory slot in the output shelf 12, while allowing reading if loaded in a memory slot 24 provided to an operation panel 15. When generating duplicates or printing remaining documents at out of paper, a user can unlock a lock 11 and re-loads the memory card 22.
