PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfy at a high degree both the prevention of imparting a glare to an occupant in a preceding vehicle, and the securement of a distant view field. SOLUTION: When a headlight 2 is lighted automatically by an auto-light controller U1, the light distribution of the headlight 2 is set fundamentally to a high beam. A beam of the headlight is switched to a low beam when a preceding vehicle is sensed by a camera 20 connected with a switching controller U2. The switching timing into the low beam is changed according to the type of the sensed preceding vehicle. For example, in the case that the preceding vehicle is of a small size, the switching to the low beam takes place earlier than compared with a large-sized vehicle (Q11-Q13).
