PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coupling mechanism of a simplified configuration capable of implementing coupling operations easily, and a display unit. SOLUTION: The coupling mechanism comprises: a column-shaped plug 5 with an engagement groove 7 in its outer circumference; a socket 8 which is configured in such a manner that it can advance or retreat in the axial direction of the plug 5 and can engage with the plug 5; a falling-off prevention member 9 that is attached to the socket 8 and can engage with the engagement groove 7 of the plug 5 that engages with the socket 8; a slide cylinder 10 that is engaged to the outer surface of the socket 8 slidably, and slides between a pushing position where the falling-off prevention member 9 is pushed into the engagement groove 7 and a pushing release position where the pushing is released; a first spring member 11 that energizes the slide cylinder 10 toward the pushing position; a cam mechanism 13 that can slide the slide cylinder 10 to the pushing release position against the energizing force of the first spring member 11, and release the engagement of the falling-off prevention member 9 and the engagement groove 7; and a release key mechanism 14 that can switch between a rotation allowing position where a cam 19 of the cam mechanism 13 can be rotated and a rotation control position where the rotation of the cam 19 is controlled.
