PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an in-vehicle illumination device which functions as a welcome light having a stage effect of light for welcoming individual occupants in addition to an illumination function. SOLUTION: The illumination device 20 in the vehicle is provided with an opening and closing detection means for detecting opening and detection operation of a door 9 of a vehicle 2, a seating detection means 30 for detecting sitting in a seat 6 in the second row, and an irradiation means 40 mounted on a lower surface of a pedestal of a seat 4 in the first row. The irradiation means 40 comprises lateral irradiation means 42 mounted at left and right sides on a lower surface of the pedestal of the seat 4 in the first row and a rear irradiation means 44 mounted on a rear part on the lower surface of the pedestal of the seat 4 in the first row in the illumination device 20 in the vehicle. When the opening and closing detection means detects opening operation of the door 9, the lateral irradiation means 42 and the rear irradiation means 44 turn on. When the seating detection means 30 detects sitting of the occupant, the lateral irradiation means 42 turn off and only the rear irradiation means 44 turns on. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
