PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a release film in which the amount of a deposited oligomer is minimized, for example to provide a release film suitable for applications in which the existence of oligomer-derived foreign substances on the surface of the film is avoided, for example a release film for protecting an adhesive layer used in the production of a liquid crystal constituent member such as a liquid crystal polarizing plate or a phase difference plate, or for example a substrate film for various optical applications used in the production of a display member such as LCD, PDP, or organic EL. SOLUTION: In the release film, a coating layer and a release layer are laminated in turn on one side of a polyester film which is stretched in at least one direction. In the release film for protecting the adhesive layer, the coating layer includes at least one crosslinking agent selected from among a melamine compound, an epoxy compound, an oxazoline compound, and an isocyanate compound and a metal salt.
