PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for controlling a die cushion mechanism, wherein a work can be stably worked while abnormality caused upon the operation of a press machine is accurately detected so as to prevent the breakage of a die cushion. SOLUTION: The apparatus (10) for controlling the die cushion mechanism comprises: a first force detection means (21a) of detecting force generated between a die cushion (20) and a slide (24); a second force detection means (21b) of detecting force generated between the die cushion and the slide; and an abnormality detection means (70) of detecting abnormality generated at the press machine. The abnormality detection means detects the fact that abnormality is generated at the press machine in the case the absolute value of the difference between the first force detected value (Dfa) detected by the first force detection means and the second force detected value (Dfb) detected by the second force detection means lies in a threshold or above.
