PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external control type fan clutch device which easily maintains the low off-fan rotation, and suppresses "the accompanied rotation phenomena" in starting and accelerating an engine, and further reduces its axial dimension, size/weight, fuel consumption, saves on energy, and prevents the imbalance due to the offset of its axis. SOLUTION: The external control type fan clutch device is composed of: an electromagnetic clutch 22 supported by a drive shaft 21; a fluid coupling device 23 which is arranged next to the electromagnetic clutch and is rotatably supported by the drive shaft, and has a torque transmitting chamber retaining a drive disk rotatably supported by the drive shaft inside a closed case having a fan mounted on its outer periphery, and transmits the turning torque to the closed case by means of the oil in the torque transmitting chamber; and an armature attached to a disk, which is fitted on the drive shaft and is supported by the drive disk.
